The strikes also claimed numerous civilian victims<\/h5>\n

The explosions of pagers and walkie-talkies that occurred throughout the country last week caused deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Since Monday morning, southern Lebanon has been the target of airstrikes that have killed hundreds of people and injured more than 1,000. Once again, civilians have been among the victims.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”711840″]The Israeli government rejects proposals for a ceasefire and instead wants the military to continue the attacks \u201cwith full force\u201d. Further civilian casualties are thus at least accepted.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”121394″]<\/p>\n

Tens of thousands had to flee the attacks<\/h5>\n

Within a few days, tens of thousands of people had to flee from the south of the country to more northern areas. The roads are congested and the improvised emergency shelters are overcrowded. From one of the converted schools in Sidon, our local staff reports 500 people who have to share two lavatories. Cloths are hung over tables and chairs to create some privacy. Many have to sleep on the floor as there are not enough mattresses. Cap Anamur provides emergency medical aid for the refugees<\/h5>\n

Over the next few days, we will be evaluating the need for food, mattresses and clothing at several locations. We are providing medical support at five of the schools in Sidon with our mobile clinic. It is unclear how safety and shelter can be guaranteed for the displaced people in the mid-term. What is certain is that the people in Lebanon urgently need support. We will continue to work on the ground and assist the internally displaced people as needed.
