Our goal
Support for medical facilities in the Tigray region
From 2020 to 2022, the Ethiopian region of Tigray was the scene of a civil war that was barely recognised by the global public. This led to the destruction of infrastructure and almost 600,000 victims. The battles have now been resolved and we as an aid organisation are supporting healthcare facilities so that people can receive medical care again.

The situation in Ethiopia
Political situation
After the country’s prime minister postponed the parliamentary elections indefinitely in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, military clashes broke out between the central government and the regional government of Tigray (TPLF). Nevertheless, regional elections were held in Tigray. This was seen as resistance against the ruling prime minister and led to the invasion of the region by government troops. Due to the brutal fighting and the siege in Tigray, as well as a blockade of aid supplies, more than 2.3 million people were dependent on humanitarian aid within a few months. However, this was not permitted by the central government.
Social situation
The Tigray conflict is one of the deadliest in recent times. Official figures speak of 600,000 victims during the two-year war. The infrastructure of the entire region was largely destroyed by massive attacks. To this day, the supply situation for the population is severely restricted. Many goods, such as medicines, medical supplies and food, are not arriving in sufficient quantities. As a result, many hospitals are undersupplied due to a lack of medicines or medical equipment. In rural regions, harvests have failed because fields have been destroyed and there has been a severe drought. The people of Tigray are therefore in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
Cap Anamur ensures the operation of health facilities in the war-ridden region of Tigray - for reliable medical care for local people.
In Tigray, the healthcare system has almost completely collapsed following the civil war. The supply of medicines and consumables is extremely limited, meaning that the healthcare facilities are on the verge of collapse.
Our engagement in Ethiopia / Tigray
Supporting healthcare facilities
Our relief efforts are focussed on the Tigray region, which has been affected by the civil war. We are initially focussing on supporting healthcare facilities so that they can continue to operate and provide medical care to the people.
In a further step, we would like to support the region in rebuilding its infrastructure by providing construction measures for healthcare facilities and rebuilding schools.
