Project reports
The Cap Anamur project reports describe the work of our teams on site, provide insights and depict current developments in the aid project.
Cramped housing, extreme poverty, lack of medical care: the reasons for the increased risk are manifold.
Living conditions, cramped dwellings and the prevalence of poverty mean that they are more likely to be exposed to disease. The lack of medical care in the camps usually does not allow for adequate treatment of the diseases. They are therefore more likely to suffer from pre-existing conditions, which in turn exacerbate a severe to fatal course when a Corona infection occurs.
Nine out of ten Syrian refugees in Lebanon live in extreme poverty, according to the United Nations. As refugees, they usually only have the option of making a living with poorly paid work or as day laborers. They have to go out to work because they cannot afford to stay at home. Conversely, these circumstances lead to more exposure to the Corona virus.
Poverty is exacerbated by rising inflation
Their poverty has been exacerbated in recent months by rising inflation. The value of the Lebanese pound is currently decreasing by a factor of 10, while the cost of living is increasing by a factor of 5. The lives of Syrian families in Lebanon are increasingly becoming a struggle for survival, creating a cycle that is almost impossible to break.
Cap Anamur helps with food rations and free trial offers
Cap Anamur has therefore launched a program in which 1,500 food rations for Syrian refugee families were packed and distributed. These are families that we already provide medical care to with our mobile clinic. To help contain the pandemic and ease the burden on local health systems, we are now testing families for Covid 19.
Cap Anamur provides urgently needed medical care through a mobile clinic. Food is also provided to support those affected, especially during quarantine.
With our mobile clinic, we continue to provide medical care in the settlements in the Sidon area and now we also support the people with food, especially during the quarantine.
As an aid organization, we are making a contribution to breaking the cycle that is increasingly exposing Syrian refugees to the Corona virus.
