Lebanon: Internally Displaced Persons in Need – Emergency Aid for Families

We provide food and hygiene supplies to people seeking refuge in Lebanon quickly and without red tape.

The situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate dramatically. Amid the current escalation between Israel and Iran, the Israeli military has significantly expanded its attacks on Lebanese territory. The primary target is Hezbollah, an Iranian ally with a strong presence in the south of the country.

The military escalation has triggered massive waves of displacement: Nearly one million people—about 20% of the population—are currently fleeing within the country. For days, the Israeli army has been issuing new evacuation orders, often by telephone. Initially, numerous villages south of the Litani River had to be evacuated, followed later by the southern suburbs of Beirut. In the meantime, the evacuation of the port city of Tyre has also been ordered.

Our team in Saida responded immediately: In a rapid response effort, families in particular need were identified and provided with food and hygiene supplies. At the same time, part of our team from the heavily affected southern region has been temporarily housed in our offices. Saida is centrally located on the coast and is considered an important border town to the south. Consequently, the pressure here from arriving internally displaced persons is significant.

We work closely with the local organization PARD, which coordinates aid efforts in schools. Through this partnership, we provide food and hygiene supplies to displaced persons in particular.

Political context

The current escalation is closely linked to the regional power struggle between Israel and Iran. While Iran exerts influence in Lebanon through Hezbollah, Israel views this as a direct threat to its security. Lebanon itself has been in a severe political and economic crisis for years and is barely capable of responding adequately to this new humanitarian emergency. The international community is warning against a further spread of the conflict to the entire region.

Our assessment

The humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly. The number of displaced people is rising daily, while shelter, supplies, and medical aid are increasingly stretched to their limits. Our teams remain on the ground and continue to provide direct assistance—quickly, without red tape, and where it is needed most.
