The supply situation in Afghanistan is getting worse, so Cap Anamur has organized the distribution of food aid packages to 2100 families in Herat province.

With the Taliban coming to power in August 2021, the living situation of the people in Afghanistan has worsened dramatically. The people are increasingly struggling with a humanitarian catastrophe, as the supply situation in the country is devastating.

The banking, health and education systems collapsed under the Taliban. The currency has depreciated massively and prices for almost all goods have risen sharply. Unemployment is high and people lack money for basic necessities: food, clothing, heating fuel, gas for cooking, medicines, and farmers lack money for seeds.

Poverty among the population is rising rapidly.

Before the Taliban government came to power, almost 75 % of government spending was financed with money from abroad. From this, many state employees were paid. With the collapse of the previous state structure, the salaries of all state employees, such as teachers, police officers, health care workers, and many others, suddenly stopped being paid. Government reserves deposited abroad by the Central Bank of Afghanistan are frozen and will not be released because of disagreement over whether or not the Taliban should be recognized as the official state power.

The upcoming winter aggravates the situation

Now the little money has to be spent on fuel, which makes the supply situation of the people much worse and more and more hunger prevails.

Cap Anamur helps the starving population in Herat with food

This is why Cap Anamur has organized the distribution of winter food aid packages, with rice, oil and beans to 2100 families in Herat province. These survival staples were twice as expensive as they have been in the last year and a half due to massive increases in price. The distribution has been well organized and we have been able to provide for the population group that is most in need.
In this relief operation, it was not possible to proceed without the consent of the Taliban. As an aid organization, we can only continue our work with the involvement of the new state authorities. Of course, it is important to keep track of where our aid is going.

If the Taliban were to completely ban the work of humanitarian aid organizations in the country, the civilian population in need would no longer be able to receive help.

You too can help so that we can provide basic foodstuffs essential for survival to the people of Afghanistan.
