Training Project as an Opportunity for Life

Cap Anamur has been offering training for nurses in Afghanistan since 2009. For many women and men, this offer is an important perspective.

The prerequisite for the training is that the participants come from rural areas of Afghanistan and pledge to return to their home villages after graduation.

There, they then help to sustainably improve basic medical care.

As the Corona pandemic spread, vocational schools throughout Afghanistan were closed from March to August and all participants had to return to their home villages.

Since the beginning of August, everyone has been able to attend classes again. Especially for women, who otherwise do not have the same educational and training opportunities as men in Afghanistan, this is an important professional perspective.

Ferzone Rezai, 28, started nursing school in October 2019.

She comes from Badghis/Qades, 150 kilometers away. Together with her three children she spent the first 6 months in our training accommodation. This is because the children can go to the course’s own kindergarten and their accommodation and meals are provided by Cap Anamur. Ferzone heard about our training program from her cousin, who had attended a previous course and now works as a nurse in her home village.
Even as a little girl, the young mother wanted to become a nurse. However, she had to bury her dreams after 12th grade because there were no opportunities to become a nurse in her region. She got married and had three children. Unfortunately, her husband was ill and could not do any heavy, physical work. Therefore, Ferzone decided to take the care of her family into her own hands. After application and entrance examination, she was then accepted last year among many applicants. Without the provision of board, lodging and childcare, it would be impossible for them to participate in the training. Therefore, the young Afghan is grateful that these matters are guaranteed by the Cologne aid organization. Ferzone sees this training as the chance of a lifetime to achieve basic financial security for herself, her husband and their children. She is especially happy about being able to help other people in need in her profession.
