Cap Anamur Emergency Aid in Ukraine – Relief Supplies for Children’s Hospital

In our emergency aid project in Ukraine, we distributed medicine and other relief supplies to the refugee women and children in the first few days. Now we have built a logistics center and will supply the local and other clinics in the area with medicines and baby food.

The first days of our relief operation in Ukraine

On March 04. our board members Volker Rath and Dr. Werner Höfner arrived in Novoselytsia, Chernivtsi Oblast in Ukraine. They have brought relief supplies such as medicine, food, baby formula and sleeping bags to the Ukrainian city. Many women and children have fled to this place since the outbreak of the Ukrainian war. Sleeping arrangements were made for them there, including in a gymnasium and a nurses’ dormitory.

Cap Anamur works closely with the municipality and has been allocated a larger space for the construction of a logistics center. We are concentrating our assistance on the area around Novoselytsia, as more IDPs are arriving here every day. From here, further relief supplies will be distributed in the future. We will mainly provide medicines and baby food for the local clinic and other clinics in the east of Ukraine.
As early as yesterday, Volker Rath and Dr. Werner Höfner visited the children’s clinic in Novoselytsia and distributed the first medicines and blankets for the children housed there who had fled from the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. The resident pediatricians were very pleased with the goods provided.

We will now continue our emergency aid from a specially built logistics center.

The two Cap Anamur board members are now still on site to organize further relief supplies. We are able to import the materials very effectively with the support of local logistics companies and their vehicles, which travel from Ukraine to Europe. On the way back, they are loaded with the required materials which can be imported without any problems.

Werner Höfner also summarizes the situation on the ground in our current Cap Anamur podcast, in which we report directly from Ukraine::

“Even after 40 years of humanitarian work, it has touched me beyond belief to see these mothers and children, who have been torn from their quiet normal lives in a very short time, sitting here in these homes. They are torn between continuing to flee or staying here in the hope of peace. They are worried about their husbands who are at war. I was moved to tears by this situation.”
– Dr. Werner Höfner, Member of the Board Cap Anamur
