Pediatrician from Mosbach Spent Six Months on Mission for Cap Anamur in Sierra Leone

The 30 year old Friederike Scheu, from Mosbach, worked from mid-May to mid-November 2022 in the children's hospital 'Ola During Childrens Hospital', in Sierra Leone.

Cap Anamur / German Emergency Doctors e.V. has been looking after the children’s hospital in Sierra Leone since 2003

Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world. Many crises and disasters have shaped the country. A long and brutal civil war in the 1990s resulted in hundreds of thousands of victims. Moreover, the 2014 Ebola epidemic nearly shut down the health care system.

Maternal and child mortality in Sierre Leone is the highest in the world. Therefore, Cap Anamur decided in 2003 to help rebuild the health system. Since then, we have been operating the largest children’s hospital in the capital Freetown. We were also active there during the Ebola epidemic. We regularly send medical personnel from Germany to treat the young patients on site and provide further training for the staff.

Medical professionals from Germany work directly on site

Friederike Scheu, a pediatrician from Mosbach, is one of these dispatched specialists. She spent six months in Sierra Leone working in the intensive care unit. There, she provided medical care, taught medical staff, and treated seriously ill children.
